re: Plinking with a pistol. What distances do you shoot? - bapple
For practical defensive handgun practice (run and gun) usually within 10 yards. For brushing up on the fundamentals, 15-25. ...

re: Scope recs for m1a - bapple
Trijicon is known for making quality, durable optics. I don’t think you should be hesitant to snag one. Couple comments/questions - 1. I agree with others that a 56mm optic on an already-heavy M1A rifle is gonna make that thing a boat anchor. I’d advise getting a 40mm version to keep weight down...

re: Reloading - bapple
I’ll mirror what others have said - cost per round will be lower in general but you’ll end up shooting more. But some advantages are the ability to build ammo with a variety of supplies or whatever is available. For example, at one point years ago a site only had 100gr 380 bullets in stock and I...
They are easy to handle. They are easy to aim. They will put down someone as well
To quote our now-amazing president in his infinite wisdom, “you don’t need an assault weapon to defend yourself. Buy a shotgun.” I kid. The AR15 is an excellent home defense weapon and I do...

re: Pistol for wife - bapple
It is mind numbing to see snub 38s be suggested so often for females. They are decent carry guns but are exactly that - CARRY guns. They are miserable and punishing to shoot. Good first gun for everyone is a full sized 9mm, period. Find one from a reputable manufacturer that fits well and train....

re: Reasonably priced AR 223 barrel/BCG combos - bapple
Didn't know that about PSA.
Not sure about their 5.56 rifles, but their 308 rifles are damn accurate. I've taken out two different ones and both have shot 3/4" groups with affordable hunting ammo (Federal Fusion, Remington Core Lokt). Excellent rifles for the money....

re: Reasonably priced AR 223 barrel/BCG combos - bapple
It costs more but Palmetto State Armory build kits are very good deals for the money. They include all the parts needed for a rifle except the lower receiver. High quality barrels too as most of theirs are made by FN. ...

re: Looking to purchase a rifle on the AR platform, advice needed... - bapple
As others have said, nothing wrong with wanting an AR10 in 308 but it’s definitely heavier than a bolt gun. I hunt with an Aero Precision because I’m used to the AR platform and I don’t mind the weight. It’s also relatively soft-shooting compared to super light 308 bolt guns for 3 reasons: 1. Semi a...

re: 92G BRIGADIER TACTICAL Vs P226 - bapple
My first handgun was a Beretta 90 two so my vote is for the Brigadier. I find Sig slides to be super tall but that could just be the fact that I've had very little trigger time on them. Just look at this Beretta with an optic and tell me that wouldn't be a sick setup with a Brigadier. [img]htt...

re: Henry Big Boy X .357/.38–thoughts? - bapple
Lever action rifles are lots of fun and have their place. But for a self defense firearm, something semi automatic will be best, especially for a novice. If you short stroke that lever under stress it’ll basically be a single-shot rifle. ...

re: Reloaders - XTreme Bullets has 9mm/223 - bapple
A lot of people don’t realize Academy stocks some reloading supplies. It can work to your advantage in your case but I bet you paid a bit more for them since I haven’t ever seen a 1000 pack there before. But then again, with low stock it may be worth it to spend the extra to buy them by the 100. ...

Beat the die with a hammer? never heard of that kind. If you want an affordable press, get the RCBS partner press. My first one broke and they replace it for free. Probably loaded 20k rounds on that thing though. ...

re: 17 year old son got his first deer ever this year... - bapple
The room got a bit foggy reading your story. Thanks a bunch for sharing! You’ll always remember this moment. My dad could tell you every second of my first deer (medium sized doe) and you would’ve thought I killed a slammer. He was super pumped. Can’t wait to have this moment with my kids one da...

re: Talk to me about buying gun parts during the assault weapons ban era - bapple
However, most of the proposed bans I’ve seen from the Democrats lately wouldn’t allow for grandfathered guns like the 94 AWB did. You would either have to register them in the NFA, turn them in, or some proposals I’ve seen would allow you to keep them without registering but you can never sel...

Reloaders - XTreme Bullets has 9mm/223 - bapple
I know primers are the main shortage but just a PSA for loaders. Just ordered 2500 124gr FP 9mm and 1500 55gr 223 FMJ for myself. I’ll probably find myself out of primers with a surplus of bullets but you have to take what you can get. ...

re: Youth deer rifle recommendations - bapple
Pretty much anything semi automatic will reduce recoil significantly. Shot a PSA AR10 in 308 compared to a bolt action 7mag and 7mm-08. Even shooting 7mm-08 reduced recoil rounds did not make that rifle (Ruger American) more mild than the AR10. But there’s a caveat - most 308 semi auto platforms...
