Best way to get internet service from RV
I work from home FT and am considering taking the kids on a long road trip this summer.

That means I’ll need internet access in quite a few places where cell service isn’t available.

What’s the best way to achieve this?

If Elon can get his arse in gear, maybe Starlink. But I wouldn’t hold my breath.

The other option might be a satellite internet provider... but if you’re doing any audio or video conferencing, that’s going to be tricky.

Do you expect to have no cell service... or maybe a little - enough that a directional antenna and booster might be able to amplify?

You're just going to have to plan your stops where there is adequate internet access, whether it's free or pay as you go wifi or cell service or whatever. "Traditional" satellite internet would work for email and such but will be exceedingly annoying for voice or video calls if it even works at all. Starlink would be great but I doubt they will lift the location restrictions by this summer, they just don't have enough sats up there yet.

i am not sure how you can do it without cell service. you sure there is no cell service or do u mean you don't want to use your cell service?

there are some unlimited internet sim plans on ebay for $50.. at least 2 years ago..

you get the unlimited sim card and stick it in a modem that is made for it..

then you just hook it up to any regular wifi router.

this is the modem i bought, but it's out of stock. maybe you can find it somewhere else.

LINK

i wonder how well this works skyroam

looks like an easier setup and only 50 for unlimited internet.

IF you are serious about needing internet access in places that do not have ANY cell signal, then the only answer is going to be a satellite based system.

They are not cheap and they are not very good.

IF you mean you need internet access in places where the cell signal may not be very strong, the answer would be to get a phone from ATT and Verizon and TMobile and have each set to unlimited data. When you stop, check each phone to see who has the strongest signal there. Cancel the phones when you get back.

There are very few places that have absolutely zero cell coverage.

You can always use a booster and antenna. Check out Hobotech's reveiws of several of them on youtube for more info. If your on AT&T Unlimited you can use the hot spot on your phone too.

This sounds like a decent workaround.
I use verizon, but I have an older iphone I could get AT&T unlimited on.
I’ve hooked up to both hotspots from my work machine, so I know they will work.

I don't know how much you want to spend, but Sierra Wireless and Cradlepoint wireless routers are awesome devices. You can find used ones a lot cheaper on ebay.
