Dishwasher works for only 5 seconds and quits. Breaker not switched.
There is a wall light switch under the sink.

I have to turn the switch up, then down and the dw will work again.

But only for 5 more seconds.

Never seen a switch on a DW. If you are comfortable bypass the switch. I work on my appliances, but no others. DWs will have some issue relays for safety so it could get iffy. You tube is great.
Good luck.

Is this something new to your DW?

My dishwasher gets out of sequence every once in a while and will not rinse or dump water or yada yada.
They are a computer now. Pull your model up and see what the sequence for a reboot is. For mine it’s a series of pressing various buttons in sequence and it clears it up.
We have done this 2-3 times in 12yrs of having it

Mine did something similar. Had to unplug and plug back in to reset it. Replaced the control panel with a part from lunaparts.com

The light blinking sequence on the top gave me an idea on what to google as the issue.

Also - I did try the reset button combination poster above mentioned but it didn't work in our case

Post this on the OT Lounge there is a guy there that is a appliance repairman that is very helpful, he probably doesn’t read this board.

Get distilled vinegar and put it in a bowl on the top shelf, run a couple cycles without dishes, you have a clogged system.

I've had the same dishwasher for 15 years, and I have never had one single problem with it. When it breaks, I'm not even going to be mad, or even slightly annoyed. Hell, I might even have a drink and pour one out for it. It'll be hell finding that same model though.

kitchenaid? mine did the same thing 3 weeks ago. it was the main pump motor. if you can't fix it your self you might as well replace the dishwasher. mine had 1 day left on the warranty and it was covered. the repair man told my wife it is a common problem with alot of the common dishwasher that used this particular pump motor.

I would start by checking the float switch. If its bad, it will cut the waterflow off and make the DW stop.

ETA: Usually its inside the DW, towards the front. Under a plastic dome piece.
