Lol, really? Where? Left is just the street right there and right is 2s fairway.

In an attempt to keep players on 8 from going on 2 fairway they made an OB for 8 only on the 2 side of the tree line on the right side which consisted of large oak trees. White steel poles marked the OB line.

Yea. I've never played it as internal OB but that would make a lot of sense. Going down 2 takes the road and trap out of play. The green opens that direction. It's a 70 yard wedge shot over a tree that isn't in play. Do it once or twice to get a feel for the line and you'll never play it down 8 again.

Back in the day the tree lined were substantial, but it ended on 8 just past that big fairway trap. A big power fade even back then would get you safely on grass, not under the trees and with a good angle to the green. But they didn’t want you cutting it too much and playing from the 2 fairway; thus the interior OB.

8 was a tight fairway as it ran towards the street. The OB right kept it tight.

FWIW, way back when that hole was originally constructed it was a tad longer. College was two lanes. The tee was a little farther back. It was a short four still, but high risk/high reward with a driver.
