Never played Cypress Lakes or Grand Ridge...
Anything I’m missing? Which is better? Updates?

TIA

Cypress’ greens are awful at the moment. They punched and they were pretty hairy the other day. Maybe they cut it recently. It’s a better layout than Grand Ridge. Grand ridge has been in good shape recently. Pick your poison.

Cypress Lakes greens are bad right now. Layout is better than Grand Ridge. The fairways at GR were always pretty poor, they have done a bunch of work on the course and it is getting better.

I tend to play CL more because of the need to use most clubs in the bag.

I grew up at Grand Ridge, so I’m partial to it. Course really punishes you for errant shots, and at times could get very thin and muddy.

But the owner is sinking a bunch of smart money into it, making drainage improvements and hiring a real bonafide greenskeeper that actually knows what he’s doing. I’m amazed at what they’ve done to the course over the last three years.

I also grew up on GR (willowdale) I played a few months ago course was in good shape. Hit them straight or you’re in for a long day

Neither course drains particularly well, so it can be sloppy if there has been rain recently.
Neither one has a great practice area.

Cypress Lakes is a little more open and the layout is better in my opinion.

Grand Ridge is really tight and shorter. It might be in better shape right now.

Are y'all talking about Cypress Lakes in Cypress, TX? I just booked an $80 round there for Sunday and the reports about the greens being in bad shape are worrying

Not a fan of Cypress lakes. Like they said pretty banged up greens and their green fees are laughable

As someone who grew up on the one in Destrehan and now lives close to the one in Cypress, they are similar in quality. I will say that I think the weekend rate of $80 is excessive even though I think the course is fine and better than Longwood and Houston National.

That weekend rate is annoying but Blackhorse is even more expensive and I've played CL 4-5 times so I'm getting fairly familiar with it.

For sure. I'll play CL for $80 before Blackhorse for $107.

i grew up there as well.......now i'm in mandeville, but i do go play in their annual members\guest tourney with some old buddies.....oct 16 and 17 this year. when i was there last year, on the back 9 over by the water diversion into the swamp area etc, he was completely excavating some new drainage. looking forward to seeing how that looks this year.
