Report: LSU To Interview NFL Assistant Coach For Defensive Coordinator Position
by TD Staff ReporterJanuary 24, 2021

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports
ESPN's Adam Rittenberg is reporting that LSU will interview Minnesota Vikings defensive backs coach Daronte Jones for the defensive coordinator position on Sunday.
Jones has spent the last five seasons in the NFL coaching defensive backs with the Vikings, the Cincinnati Bengals, and the Miami Dolphins.
Before his time in the NFL, the Capital Heights, Maryland native served as defensive backs coach at the University of Wisconsin in 2015 and was the secondary coach at the University of Hawaii from 2012-14.
Jones, 41, has some ties to Louisiana as he was the defensive coordinator at two High Schools in the state — Jeanerette (2004) and Franklin (2003)

Some of you are retards. Acting like our staff just randomly picks a name out of a hat. These people are being recommended by other people someone on the staff knows. I’m not saying it’s the right hire or a good hire but you can all stop with the negative ignorance. You know nothing about why, how, where then make some of the most negative and ignorant comments ever seen. And STFU with the race card BS. My goodness it’s old and you sound like a whinny bitch who thinks people owe you something. O won’t hire someone because of skin color if that person isn’t going to bring something great to the table. I would like to see more names being brought in to talk.

Most of you seem to be assuming LSU went looking for this position coach. I don't know, but I think it is more likely that Coach Jones heard there was a job opening, submitted a resume', and asked for an interview. LSU would be making a mistake not to interview him. I know a lot of companies made some really big mistakes by not interviewing me.

Are we unable to get a DC, so we have to target position coaches? O has promised only the best. No more Pelini, and Canada, please. Let's go after some good DC's, and see who wants in. Only speak to people with recent success as a DC. No position coaches, parking lot attendants, fry cooks, or others who are not qualified.

So the AD & HC at LSU is basically at the point where there begging NFL DCs to PLEASE come to BR? Seems sad & damn near pathetic!!

We already have the best DB coach we could possibly want. So if we're going to make a DB coach a defensive coordinator, what's the point of hiring anyone but Raymond?
Reply1 month

Surely, there must be SOMEONE out there, worth hiring, who has actually called plays before.

Uhhhhhh...one is a college coach and one is coaching at the highest level, and successful.
Together they would probably work great. Make Corey arse DC

Uhhhhhh... It doesn't matter what level you coach at when you are a position coach. That was the point. You don't call plays, you just teach fundamentals of the position. Shall I run down the list of All-American DB's at LSU, under Raymond, who have almost all gone on to be stars at the next level? Or has the point sunk in, yet?
If you're not going to go get an actual defensive coordinator, why not go for the guy with an actual track record of success coaching DB's, rather than going after this other guy who isn't nearly as accomplished in developing players.

Wait, I thought O cld get anyone he wanted... this must be the plan then

I would 1000% melt if he is the guy. Very very unimpressive resume.

Scrapping the bottom of the barrel. This has become a joke.
Just hire a local highschool coach and call it a day.
Pathetic.

He has spent the last 5 years working with 3 different teams. To me this alone seems like a red flag. I hope I'm wrong.

Alabama hires former head coaches at coordinator positions and LSU goes after career position coaches. I guess that is what you get when you follow up a season like 2019 with that of 2020. Bama is able to hire better and keep players in the fold longer and it pays off year after year. SMH

For all you commenting on the candidates name or race. Stfu. Most of our players are black. Further, consider this candidate was DC on the high school level 17 years ago and has experience at every level, all the way into the NFL ranks as DB coach.
I don’t care his name or race, just want him to be able to make our team better. Hope the guy can put together a decent defense scheme!

Literally nobody has said anything about race. He has a piss poor resume and Minnesota’s defense has been terrible. At least the Saints DLine coach knew what the frick he was doing because his DLines are always great. Haven’t heard anything good about Minnesota Defensive backs. So you can stfu as well.
